{Post 1,532} Revised Bear's Paw

I changed the fabric for the sashings and center cornerstone on the block.  I like this a lot better. However, I don't think I have enough of the gray and white stripe for all the blocks.  I'll play this by ear, but I hope to find a similar shirt somewhere out there.

I will try the black for the larger sashings between blocks. I am adding the original block below to compare them. This lets the actual Bear's Paw shape stand out, which is what I wanted.

{Post 1,531} First Bear's Paw Block Finished

This measures 14" square...the first of many. I wanted to do a trial run to see if I liked the piecing process.  I like it!!

{Post 1,530} Deboning and Planning

I have some new-to-use-for-quilting shirts on my pressing station.  They have been washed and dried. When I start "deboning" them, I plan to cut pieces for my next shirt quilt at the same time.

Most of the quilts were purchased at a Salvation Army thrift store when the tags were 50 cents to 75 cents. I got a couple from the trash can in my laundry room.  My son threw them away. What is ironic is that I originally purchased them for quilts, he commandeered them for his wardrobe, then pitched them when they got a little hole or whatever. Good thing I take out the laundry room trash, eh?

Here is my plan for the next quilt.  I am stealing Julie K's plan from her Bear's Paw quilt. This is my official plan on a 4 x 6 card.

{Post 1,529} Fourth Post Today!

I am working backwards in my quilt life to catch up a bit.

I was blessed to be at the birth of a little boy. I was there when his older sister was born as well.  His mom told me they were decorating with wolves (odd to me!). I found some wolf print for the back and matched some squares to make half square triangles for the front.

It ended up about 40" square. Here is the center. It is made with batiks and solid light gray.

A close up of the quilting.

The back:

...and I am realizing I don't have a picture of the whole thing from the front!

{Post 1,528} Quick I Spy Quilt

I whipped up a quick I Spy quilt for a baby gift this past Friday night. The shower was Saturday AM (yes--very last minute).  I picked up a pack of bright charm squares at Walmart. I keep a stack of 4-1/2" squares of I Spy prints at the ready.  I picked out ones that matched the colors in the charm pack.  I thought it turned out nicely in spite of being thrown together quickly.

I backed it with Minkee and did not put batting in. That makes it nice for snuggling.

{Post 1,527} Selvage Blocks

I started making these selvage and eggplant purple blocks a couple months ago.  I finally finished them all.  Here is my quilt with the top 5 rows sewn together and the rest webbed. After this is pieced, there will be one more row of pieced blocks all around the outside and then a border of the purple. Each block finishes at 5".

{Post 1,526} Test Run For Blogging From IPad

I have been absent for months. I am practically chained to my iPad...my computer and I don't see each other often.  I want to try blogging from the iPad. Does anyone see this post?  Is it acceptable?

I made this Wonky Star quilt for a dear friend who lives in FL with her husband and 7 children.  It is 97" x 80".  I mailed it today. I hope she likes it. Here is the whole thing.  It was made from scraps except for the two borders.

Here is a close-up of the only perfectly cut and pieced block.  It was the first one pieced.  After that, wonky was the name of the game.

Here's a closer look at the border.  I was very adventurous.
