{Post #959} Rectangle Wrangle Block

Just wanted to stitch up one of these blocks.  This is from Bonnie Hunter's Scraps and Shirttails II book.  The pattern is called Rectangle Wrangle.  I photographed it with my hand in the picture so you could see how big (or rather SMALL) the block is in comparison.

Only a bazillion more to go, and I'll have a good-sized quilt! This one block is 6" x 12" finished.

{Post #960} Rectangle Wrangle Goes Brown

Here are 4 Rectangle Wrangle blocks.  I decided to give brown a whirl instead of black for the consistent color.  I was going to wait until I could buy some solid brown, but that might be a couple weeks.  I gave this Thimbleberries brown (that I had in my stash) a try.  I think I like it.  I am using brown because my bedroom walls are brown, and this just might live in my room eventually.

This section is 12" wide by 24" long.  


Last night I spent a bit of time cutting up plaids into strips for this quilt.  I also bought 4 more shirts yesterday.  They were $1 each.  More shirt deboning (as Bonnie calls it) in my future this afternoon.


Now off to cook lunch and make a big mess!

{Post #972} Rectangle Wrangle

I have a few more blocks to make for the center of this quilt, but here is a pic from my design wall from this AM.

I am going to make 4 more blocks and make this into a baby quilt.  I had 5 baby quilts to make for ladies in our church.  One baby was delivered Saturday AM, and Monday I found out two more ladies are expecting!  How exciting!!


The above quilt blocks are 6" wide and 12" long.  I am going to make one more for the blank spot and 3 more for along the left side to make it 36" tall and 36" wide as well.  I'll add a little brown border then a larger one.  


Stay tuned for the last pictures of my tan and blue spiderweb quilt.  Last night during BYOC I finished hand sewing the binding.  It's in the dryer now.

{Post #961} Fair and Square on New Design Wall

Here are the 30 center blocks, corner triangles, setting triangles, and one strip of the outer border for my Fair & Square quilt.  The top left corner has 3 rows actually sewn together.

It is hard to detect in the picture, but I have a second design wall on the left side.  The "old" one is on the right.  The new one is taller.  My husband cut down and screwed the insulation board to the particle board this past weekend.  This AM I stapled the tablecloth onto it.  Again, pics don't tell all.  The above blocks cover a huge area.  Scale is hard to determine in pictures.  Looking forward to finishing the piecing on this one.


Truth be told...I've started 3 other shirt quilts.  I am in the process of cutting the shirts apart.  I would rather only handle them once.  So as I cut off the collars, sleeves, cuffs, and yokes, I deposited the pieces I cut out into 2-1/2" x 16" for a scrappy bargello, 2-1/2" x 10" for Rectangle Wrangle, bricks and squares for Hand Me Down blocks, and the smallest strange-sized pieces into an old plastic spinach box for a spiderweb shirt quilt.  I have a few blocks of each one made (just to see what they would look like, of course).


To my surprise, I came across a stack of 9" wide x WOF woven plaids.  I THINK I might have gotten them from my sister in this purchase.  Anywho...I cut them up.  My process...as I cut the shirt parts down, if a strip was 2-1/2" wide, I cut it into 16" if it was long enough, and 10" if it was long enough.  The Hand Me Down blocks take sets of 4 or 8, so I had to see if there was enough for those.  The string box quickly filled up.  Pics of the spiderweb string later.
