{Post 1,607} Surprises

Today hardly went as planned at all. I had anticipated taking Timmy to school and having the rest of the weekend free. He threw up before we cooked breakfast. We spent most of the day Velcro-ed together. Poor little nipper. So he did not go to school and is staying here all weekend.

A couple of years ago I started taking out one woman at a time from my church for a meal (I do this once a month or so). It is a great way to get to know someone. Church is so busy. I interpret for the deaf, sing in the choir (although I am taking a year off from that right now), teach preschool every week, coordinate the wedding and baby showers, etc. etc. It’s hard to have a decent conversation while at church, but I love my church family. I had planned to take a new-to-our-church girl out for lunch today. Fortunately, we could still do that. My son watched Timmy while I was out. I cut the meal short so I could get back soon. He fell asleep on the couch with a bright light on. Highly irregular!

I did more hand sewing on my Grandmother’s Flower Garden. Basted more green diamonds and added another filler unit (did not take a picture).

Also, I just finished this for the wire Welcome quilt hanger I mentioned in my last post. It is not exactly what I had in mind, but will do for now. I hope to start hand quilting it tomorrow. The black tiny floral is one of my favorite prints. It is by Moda. Most of the creams are Thimbleberries. It measures 17-3/4” x 15” now. I might use red binding. I’ll decide when I get to that point.

{Post 1,606} Pattern Request

Two posts in one night! What in the world?

I have a wire quilt wall hanger that holds a 12” quilt. I would like to make one for Valentine’s season. I have a little pattern in mind, but I’m wondering if one of you has a favorite. I want hearts on it somewhere and mostly red, pink, and cream for the colors.

Thanks ahead of time. I am having trouble with Blogger. One thing is that I cannot always see comments. If you have a suggestion for a pattern, please email it to me at joanparker10@gmail.com just to make sure I get it. Thank you.

{Post 1,605} Back to the Garden

I did not piece any new Moth in the Window blocks today. This was a very unusual Thursday for me. I dropped my grandson off at school, then stopped for some groceries on the way home. I was busy until the very minute I had to leave to get him after that. I make home made bread from sprouted white wheat flour, and I baked a loaf of that today. On our way back from school, we stopped at Hobby Lobby. As part of my clean-up process, I am taking the old family portraits out of their frames. I am putting the pictures in a scrapbooking album that holds 12” x 12” sheets. The album I bought just has sheet protectors, so I stopped and got enough black paper to put in them. I will attach my pictures to those. The frames will go in the next donate box.

Last week I started teaching a 7-year-old little boy from my church (and Timmy’s school) sign language. We plan to have a lesson on Thursday afternoons. He gets out of school an hour later than Timmy, so we had time for the Hobby Lobby stop before he arrived. I have been signing for 30 years. This little fella has renewed my love for the language. He is soooo adorable. After that, we chilled for about an hour, then I took Timmy to play at Chick-fil-A in the play area. Had supper there, too.

So no new quilt blocks. But I am going to share what little sewing I did do today. It’s all progress. You’re probably wondering what my post title means. I am adding filler edges to my Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt. It is all hand cut and hand sewn. I love all of it. I am piecing the filler units in remote locations and then attaching them to the mother ship at home. Here is my first edge needing fillers. What you see is three units sewn into place and the fourth that is ready for attaching. I will miss working on this when it’s finished. I think I’ve been working on it for four years. But only on planes and in automobiles. I have done a tiny bit of stitching in a hotel or two. It has been my travel project.

{Post 1,604} More Moths

I have a new way of posting the new blocks. They will be in a separate picture, then I will show the whole group of them together. The last picture is a close-up of the cornerstones and sashing. The sashing is actually black near the cornerstones and dark red/black plaid in the center. In the former picture, it looks like all black.

{Post 1,603} Three More on the Wall

I made three more blocks this AM. It took an hour and 15 minutes from start to finish. They seem to go fast, so I was surprised to see that it took so long. I had to find my design wall to put them up. We have kept our upstairs guest room free of non-grandchildren things, so the design walls had to go. I thought it would be easier to make fabric selections for future blocks if I could see all the ones I used so far. So, without further delay, here are my 11 blocks so far.

{Post 1,602} Eight Strong

Here are my completed Moth in the Window blocks. I realized after studying Bonnie’s photo more that I had my first blocks backwards. The light fabric is the moth, not the other way around. But she does have a few “my” way. I will start making the blocks with the light fabric forming the moth. In my quilts, the less cream, the more I seem to like them.
