Scrappy Stars Renamed...Center Finished

Lo, and behold...a mostly finished quilt top! This pattern is called "Scrappy Stars", but I had to rename it considering that I have lots of scrappy star quilts already. I think Zigzag Stars will be the new name for this. It still needs a thin inner and wide outer border to be complete, but this is a great start! It measures 68" square now. The original pattern only had 3 rows of blocks, but bigger is better here at the ole homestead. If you want to see past posts about this, search for "scrappy stars".

Just got some great news. My family will be "house sitting" for one of my husband's cousins for a week in July. They have a large in-ground pool (that's a big plus for us), and we can use their house for housing. It would cost a fortune for our family to pay for temporary housing for a week (hotel, condo, cabin--you name it!). So this is a huge blessing for us. We will be close to my WH's family, so we will be visiting with them as well.

Scrappy Stars Quarter

This is approximately one quarter of Rachel's Scrappy Stars quilt. I think it should be called Kitchen Sink, because there's every fabric in there but.

Rachel webbed the top then was tired of sewing. She asked me to finish it. So here's where we are so far. I was eager to see what the border would look like on it, so I put together enough blocks to get a good idea.

I used the same fabric for all the stars to give it a little cohesiveness. Scraps rule!

Different Scrappy Stars Layout

Playing around with a different layout for the Scrappy Stars.  I didn't like the dark brown sashing, but I am going to use that fabric in the border of the quilt.  I STILL have not found my original magazine, but I like the HST border in the original pattern.  I found it on All People Quilt, so I *have* the pattern. 

What do you think of this setting?  I'd have to make two more blocks to have 3 x 5 blocks.  A good throw size.

First up is my first large quilt.  It is a combination of hand quilting and machine quilting.  The large stars in the center have hand-quilted matching star shapes in the 4 corners of every block.  The quilt measures 88" x 104".  It has a white-on-white backing.  It will need to be washed before use as it's been stored for several years.  The pattern is called Stars in the Cabin.  Here is a picture of it all and several close-ups.  I want $150 plus shipping.

Next up are two hand-quilting hoops.  I used them both briefly and quilt w/o a hoop now.

The oval one is 9" x 15" x 1" deep.  The border hoop is 10" x 10" x 1" deep.  To use the border hoop, you open it up, pin your border to the "leader", then close the hoop on it and voila--you have a taut surface to quilt on.  (Border hoop is sold).  They are $10 each plus actual shipping.

First up is this "My Quilting Journal" by Lynette Jensen of Thimbleberries.  It is a quilter's memory book for thoughts and photographs of favorite quilts.  This is new and unused.  Spiral-bound on the inside (hard cover) with 143 pages.  I would ship this in a box so it does not get damaged en route.  $10.  SOLD!

{Post 1,512} Triangle-Pieced Wonky Stars

Here is the result from yesterday and this AM:

I am a scrappy girl at heart.  My least favorite block is the top left original one.  All the background matches and all points are uniform.  My favorite is the bottom right...pieced center block with all different of everything.

I keep my tiny scraps in a shoebox-sized storage box under my desk.  I just throw the scraps in there when I have them.  These are very small pieces!  I figure I'll cut the 2-1/2" square centers from prints and outer squares from creams as I have them.  If all else fails, I'll cut off a bolt!  What???  Is that even possible, LOL.

The Big ONE OH OH Give-Away

My 100th post, and I don't know what to say! I'll just report on my everyday life as usual, with a surprise at the end.

Above is DD3 and Houdini, her parakeet. I'm not giving either one of them away!! Houdini is the one with the bright blue feathers. Aren't they cute together? Houdini kept tickling DD3 as she walked around on her shoulders, making DD giggle...such a fun sound. Wish you could hear it!



And here is my accomplishment for this AM and last night. Half of the center of a Scrappy Stars quilt top. I added a block to each row to make it larger (if you've been reading along as I write, you know I need to make larger quilts these days). Can't have anyone complaining about cold feet or shoulders.

This section measures 68" x 34". I like the zigzag coming down like a streak of lightning between the rows. As much as I love scrappy quilts, I like to control it a bit. In these blocks, I've used the same cream background for a block (although each block has a different cream). I've also used the same print for all 8 triangles in the star. Again, each block is a different print.

I am going to go upstairs and hand quilt a while and visit with the children up there.

Of course I have since avoided those folks. But I have enjoyed making new acquaintances and making friends of former acquaintances here!

I enjoy reading many of your blogs. It's like peeking over your shoulder while you sew. Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement.
