{Post 1,262} Emily's New Bed Quilt

Now I've got to work at getting the borders on.  I used two different muslins for the alternate squares, setting, and corner triangles.  From what I could easily see, there are at least 5 different ones in the pieced blocks.  So what's a couple more?  This piece measures 73-1/2" x 91".

Here's my plan.  I hope it works.  The entire quilt top when finished will be too wide to quilt on my frame.  There's no way I'm doing it without the frame.  So I am planning to add a 2" finished blue border all around this.  I am quilting a different pattern in the blue frame than the outer border.

Then I'm adding a muslin border to 3 of the sides to make it her desired finished size (100" x 118").  My plan is to leave off one long side border and quilt the center with one border and the bottom border.  Then I'll quilt the single border separately.  Then I'll sew the border to the blue "frame" and trim the batting so it just touches.  I'll hand stitch the batting to the other piece of batting, then turn the back edge under and blind stitch it by hand.  Then I'll bind the whole thing.  Will it work?  Stay tuned!!

Yes! It will work. I have quilted 2 quilts in pieces and then sewn them together. It wasn't exactly fun, but it got the job done. That was when I had my older sewing machine and it didn't have as much room.

Beautiful! I've heard of that technique of adding quilted parts together, but have never tried it. I'm sure you can do it! Can't wait to see the end result.
