New Bed Skirt

My old bed skirt was one of those things that bothered me...daily. Unfortunately, there are too many of those things in my house. Fortunately, I sewed a new skirt today. I didn't think of taking a pic of the old one. It was cream, stained, and ripped on this side (the side everyone sees when they come in the room). It was perpetually crooked also. It was gathered onto a piece of fabric that was between the mattress and box springs, so it was crooked from the second the mattress was put back on.

I saw
this tutorial and decided right then and there that this was the skirt for me. It was incredibly easy to sew and put on. I used the self-adhesive Velcro. I thought it might not be sturdy, but it is on those box springs like white on rice. Very secure. The only hard part was decided which fabric to use. Since I recently bought over 500 yards, that should have been easy...but it wasn't. I think the fabric brings out the stars in the corners of the log cabin blocks on my quilt.

The middle picture shows the faux pleat on the center of the side.

I am about to sew the last side. In this pic this side and the foot of the bed are finished. I've been cleaning/decluttering my bathroom and bedroom yesterday and today. I'm beat. How does all that junk get crammed everywhere?? Don't answer...

Joan I think you made a great choice it looks lovely. I love the quilt on your bed, do you have a pattern for that? I would love to make a log cabin quilt...that one of yours really hits a spot with me.

We are just in the midst of redoing some bedrooms - more just rearranging sleeping arrangements. With two boys moved out permanently, we have a bit of extra space. How exciting. All summer I've been thinking, that come fall, we will sew up pillow cases. And yesturday I realized one of the bedrooms will need a new valence. And today we came across one bed that will need a different bed skirt. How neat to find this info on your blog. I'll google to see if I can find some cute ideas for valences - something with piecing involved. We live in the boonies, so no all-window covers for us. Just a valence.
With the bed skirt discovery, I will then make pillowcases/skirts and valences to match. Thanks for the inspiration.

Woot! Woot! It looks awesome and matches your quilt amazingly well. Can't wait to see what it all looks like when we repaint the walls! :D

Hi, Your quilt on your bed is very pretty, and the bed skirt look so good with it. It does sound like you have been busy, but when it is all done you can set back and enjoy it. Have a great day!

The bed skirt looks great! Thank you for the link to the tutorial. What a wonderful alternative to the neck breaking, finger bending chore of putting on a bed skirt with the icky interior fabric, and having it slip around anyway. You always find and share the best things!!

Love the bedskirt!! I'm a sucker for golds and greens and reds -- everything you have in the quilt on the bed! LOL I'm always amazed how accompishing ONE thing always leads to a blue-billion more...If I clean my sewing table, I should probably sweep, fold the left-out fabric and put it away, get the sewing stuff out of the laundry room/kitchen counter....LOL! ! School-schmool! I say, after such a fabulous finish, you should take a nap. (Can you tell I'm a homeschooling mom and quilter, too!?) :-D
Blessings,
Mary Lou

What a great idea!!! I need to make a bed skirt for my bed but have been putting it off as I hate making the kind that goes between the mattresses. Now I am ready to give it a try. Thanks for sharing the tutorial.

It looks great! Love your quilt too. I saw that tutorial and saved it because it looks like a great way to get a bed skirt - and use up stash!
